WGA Announces Interim Agreements w/ Lionsgate & Marvel Studios

Leading independent filmed entertainment studio Lionsgate is the latest company to sign an interim agreement with the Writers Guild of America. The company is one of the largest independent producers and distributors of motion pictures, television programming, home entertainment, family entertainment and video-on-demand content.

The agreement is similar to the deals the WGA has recently announced with United Artists, Worldwide Pants, Spyglass Entertainment, MRC, Jackson Bites, Mandate Films, and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment. Marvel Studios, a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment, Inc., and the Writers Guild of America (WGA) announced today that they have reached an interim comprehensive agreement that will put writers immediately back to work on the Marvel Studios development slate.

  1. Interestingly, the Weinstein Company is not among the list of agreements similar to that of Lionsgate (United Artists, Worldwide Pants, etc.) Does this mean that the brothers Weinstein cut a different sort of deal with the WGA? Did the Writers have to give the Weinsteins concessions which the other independent producers did not demand?

  2. That information was taken from the WGA Release (www.wga.org). We have a message in to the WGA to see if we can get an answer for you.
